SEOUL, Korea – 5 March, 2026 –Your smartphone just got a whole lot more useful. Samsung's making it so you can ditch your house keys and unlock your front door with just a tap of your Galaxy device, thanks to a new feature called Digital Home Key that's now live in Samsung Wallet.
Starting this month, Samsung Wallet users can add their home to the growing list of things they can unlock with their phone—joining car keys, payment cards, and digital IDs in one convenient app. The feature works with compatible smart door locks that support Aliro, an open industry standard for smart lock technology developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA).
"As we continue to evolve Samsung Wallet, delivering trusted mobile experiences remains at the core of our innovation," said Woncheol Chai, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics. The company's betting big on making your phone the only thing you need to carry.
How It Actually Works
Here's the deal: if you've got a compatible smart lock set up through Samsung SmartThings using Matter (that's the universal smart home standard everyone's rallying behind), you can add a Digital Home Key to Samsung Wallet during the initial setup process. Once that's done, you've got options.
Depending on what your phone and lock can handle, you can unlock your door by tapping your smartphone using NFC (near-field communication), use hands-free access with UWB (ultra-wideband) that detects when you're nearby, or even unlock remotely through the app when you need to let someone in while you're away.
Samsung's working with some heavy hitters in the smart lock game to make this happen. Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings are all on board to support Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key. More partnerships are likely coming as the feature rolls out across different regions.
Security That Doesn't Mess Around
Look, we get it—storing your house key on your phone sounds convenient but also potentially terrifying from a security standpoint. Samsung's addressing those concerns head-on. Digital Home Keys are stored securely on your device and protected by Samsung Knox, the company's defense-grade security platform. We're talking EAL6+ grade certification standards here, which is basically Fort Knox-level protection for your digital keys.
The security measures don't stop there. If you lose your phone (because let's face it, that happens), you're not locked out forever or worried someone's breaking into your house. You can remotely manage or completely remove access using Samsung Find. Plus, you'll need biometric authentication or a PIN within Samsung Wallet to actually use the key, so even if someone gets their hands on your unlocked phone, they can't just waltz into your home.
When Can You Get It?
Samsung Wallet's Digital Home Key started rolling out in select regions in March 2026, and availability will expand alongside compatible smart lock launches. So if you're not seeing it yet, it might just be a matter of waiting for your region or your preferred smart lock brand to catch up.
The move signals Samsung's continued push to make the smartphone the ultimate all-in-one device. Between unlocking cars, making payments, storing IDs, and now opening your front door, Samsung Wallet is becoming less of a digital wallet and more of a digital everything-you-used-to-keep-in-your-pockets.
