Huawei unveils its thinnest tablet yet with pro-level features that could change how you work |
I've seen plenty of tablets come and go over the years, but when a press release for Huawei's latest landed in my inbox this morning, I actually sat up and took notice. The new MatePad Pro 13.2 isn't just another iPad competitor—it's a serious attempt to reinvent what a tablet can do for professionals who are constantly on the move.
Let me cut to the chase: this thing is impressively thin. At just 5.5mm and weighing only 580g, it's the kind of device you could slip into your bag and forget it's there until you need it. I've lugged around plenty of "portable" devices that left me with shoulder pain after a day of carrying them, so this caught my attention immediately.
The tablet hits Malaysian stores with a RM4,999 price tag, which puts it firmly in premium territory. But Huawei is sweetening the deal with a pre-order bundle that runs until March 14, offering accessories worth up to RM2,744—essentially cutting the effective price nearly in half if you were planning to buy the extras anyway.
Performance-wise, Huawei claims this thing can handle serious workloads without breaking a sweat. The upgraded cooling system apparently extends turbo duration by 85% while reducing temperatures by 10°C. Translation? You can edit videos or manage complex design projects without the tablet turning into a hand warmer. As someone who's had to stop working when my devices became too hot to handle, this is a genuine improvement.
Battery life seems solid too. The 10,100 mAh battery pairs with Huawei's Smart Power Conserve tech to keep you working all day, and when you do need to charge, it reaches 80% in 40 minutes and full power in just over an hour.
The screen is where this tablet really shines—literally. The 13.2-inch Flexible OLED PaperMatte Display pushes brightness to 1000 nits, which means you can actually see what you're working on even when you're sitting outside at a café. The anti-glare technology is a thoughtful addition that acknowledges how real people use these devices in the real world.
For the creatives among us, the GoPaint app with 150+ professional brushes turns the tablet into a portable studio. I've tried digital drawing on lesser tablets and found the experience frustrating, but the MatePad Pro's 16,384 pressure sensitivity levels with the M-Pencil (3rd Gen) sounds promising enough that I'm tempted to give digital art another go.
The tablet comes bundled with the Smart Magnetic Keyboard during the pre-order period, which transforms it into something closer to a laptop replacement. With 1.5mm key travel and a proper touchpad, you might actually enjoy typing on this thing—a rarity for tablet keyboards in my experience.
If you're intrigued, Huawei is offering the bundle through their official website, as well as Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and Huawei Experience Stores. Early birds on Shopee and Lazada get an additional RM200 voucher, while in-store shoppers receive a printer worth RM249.
Is it enough to take on the iPad Pro or Surface? I'll need to get my hands on one to tell you for sure, but on paper, Huawei has created something that deserves your attention if you're in the market for a premium tablet that can actually handle real work.
